Collections
The Library collection originated in the collections of former departmental libraries of the School of Philosophy, that were unified and moved to a new building in 2019. The collections cover a wide range of humanities disciplines and the arts, in many languages and many formats. Greek language, literature, philosophy, history and art are the main foundation of the collection. Latin literature, european languages and literatures (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian), pedagogy and psychology, music and theater studies make up a large collection of nearly 500.000 volumes.
Amongst them there are old and rare editions (nearly 22.000 volumes), some of them from 16th century, manuscripts, printed books, printed journals (4.038 titles), a big collection of audiovisual material (musical, in the most part), the fast growing institutional repository «Pergamos» with grey literature, digitised collections, and other research output of the university. Library material comes from acquisitions, donations and exchange with cooperating institutions from Greece and abroad, aiming at supporting and reinforcing research and education activities in the School of Philosophy.
Donations
The Library of the School of Philosophy is pleased to accept donations of materials to enrich its collection after evaluation by the Library and according to the standard procedure of the university. For those interested, a Donation Form should be completed.
Due to the increased flow of donations to the Library and limited shelf space, the Library Board decided that from 1/6/2023 onwards the donations cannot exceed 50 items per case. We appreciate the understanding of the interested parties.
