Library history
The first libraries ("Spoudastiria") of the School of Philosophy, were established in 1922 and were operated in parallel with the University Library. These were the Library of Philology, the Library of Philosophy, the Library of History and Archaeology. According to the organizational regulation of the university (1932), the Library of History and Archaeology was split into two libraries, Library of History and Library of Archaeology respectively and two more libraries were created, the Library of Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology and the the Library of Linguistics.
When the law for the structure and operation of the Greek Universities (no.1268/82) passed, libraries came under the authority either of Sections or Departments. During the academic year 1987-1988, the School of Philosophy with all its libraries moved in a new building on the Universtity Campus Zographou. Until September 2018 sixteen libraries were operating at the School of Philosophy serving the needs of twelve academic units.
In January 2019 the Library of the School of Philosophy opened to the public, in a new modern building of 7,500 m2 next to the School.
